Bevan’s Butchers from Kingston Upon Thames are proud and delighted to announce that the family-run firm has won ‘Britain’s Best Butchers Shop’.
The competition is part of the annual Meat Management Industry Awards, where the best in the UK’s meat industry are rewarded and celebrated. The ‘Britain’s Best Butchers Shop’ category is open to independent retail butchers across the UK. It is hailed as “the meat industry’s highest honour” by head judge, Keith Fisher. “This coveted award is a testament to the creativity, innovation, and excellence Bevan’s Butchers provide to our industry.” Every element of the business was considered, including, the skill level of staff, quality of products, the level of customer service and branding before a final decision was made.
Bevan’s Butchers attribute their success to their contemporary and innovative approach. Current owner Robin Bevan says, “I have always taken inspiration from both my family’s past and the very best in the industry internationally. We work hard to offer the highest quality to our customers; we specialise in dry aged beef, develop our own products and source the very best in fresh food and groceries, I think that is a key factor in our winning this prestigious award.” Approaching the shop from the street, customers are greeted with an impressive display of dry aged beef, free-range pork, and lamb. The fridge is a full glass enclosure designed to showcase the produce and capture the public’s attention. It is a statement of pride in what Bevan’s do and a refreshingly transparent approach in this pre-packed age.
The company has a close working relationship with local farmers, helping ensure traceability and sustainability. “If a customer asks where a ribeye steak has come from, I can tell them exactly which breed, farm and even the name of the farmer it came from,” says Robin Bevan. “This year we have been able to get beef and lamb from Poleseden Lacey in Great Bookham, you really couldn’t get more local”. Bevan’s have a highly skilled team; from the experienced production staff, responsible for the preparation of Bevans’ signature products like their popular wagyu beef burgers, sausages and stir fry’s as well as their extensive range of BBQ products, to the skilled butchers putting the finishing touches to every dry aged rib of beef.
Bevan’s Butchers have been butchers in Kingston since 1929 when Robin Bevan’s great grandfather first founded the business. The family-run firm now boasts four modern and innovative butchers’ shops in Kingston Upon Thames, Effingham, Esher (Garsons Farm) and Bagshot (Longacres).
Robin Bevan is delighted with the accolade ‘Britain’s Best Butchers Shop’ “We are celebrating 90 years in the business this year, this award is incredibly important to myself, our lovely customers and our butchers and staff who continue to work exceptionally hard. I could not be more thrilled!”
